Who we are
ClarifyAi ("Clarify", "we") is an AI tutor that explains school and entrance-exam doubts for students in India. You can reach us about anything in this policy at support@clarifyai.in.
Many of our students are under 18. This policy is written so that a student and a parent can both follow it.
What we store about you
Your account:
- your name and email address;
- your password, stored only as a one-way hash (we cannot read it), or, if you use Continue with Google, your Google account ID, name and email;
- your study profile: board or exam, class, language, exam language, academic year, state board, analogy style, exam goals, confidence level and the chapters you add;
- a partner referral code, if you entered one or arrived through a partner link;
- when you accepted the Terms of Use and this Privacy Policy.
What you do in Clarify:
- your questions, the answers and your chats, including photos you attach (for a PDF we keep its name and size with the chat);
- lines you save to your notebook and the revision notes made from them;
- your learning progress: which concepts are landing, the short checks Clarify asks you and the outcome of each one, your practice and mock test attempts, and any answer ratings you give. Your reply to a check is part of the chat where you wrote it;
- how many doubts and voice minutes you have used each day and month, and a cost record for each answer (which AI models ran, how many tokens they used and how long they took);
- for live voice sessions, when each session started and ended and how long it was. We do not record or store the audio.
Payments: the plan you bought, the amount, the Razorpay order and payment IDs, the payment status and the dates. You enter card, UPI or bank details on Razorpay's checkout; we never receive them.
Security: when you sign up, your browser creates a random device ID that is saved with your account and used to limit repeat free accounts on one device. Your IP address is used for rate limits and the signup security check. For the rate limits that last longer than one request (such as signups per network per day), we keep a keyed one-way code derived from your IP address, never the address itself, for up to 24 hours; it is deleted after that. Our hosting provider records technical request logs, which include IP addresses.
What stays on your device
Your browser keeps your sign-in token, your theme choice, the signup device ID, a partner referral code from a link (for up to 30 days), questions that have not finished sending, and notebook chapters you saved for offline reading. Signing out removes the offline notes and unsent questions from that browser.
We do not use advertising or analytics trackers, and Clarify itself sets no cookies. The Google sign-in button, the Cloudflare security check and the Razorpay checkout load only on the screens that use them, and those services may set their own cookies.
How we use it
- to answer your doubts and shape each explanation to your profile;
- to keep your chats, notebook and progress so you can come back to them;
- to count doubts and voice minutes against your plan, and to take payments;
- to send service emails: verification and password reset codes, a reminder before a paid pass ends, and a confirmation when an account is deleted. We do not send marketing email;
- to stop abuse, such as automated signups and repeat free accounts;
- to find and fix problems and to improve answer quality, for example by reviewing cost records and ratings.
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not show ads.
Services that process your data for us
To answer a doubt, the question, the recent conversation, any photo or PDF you attached and the parts of your profile that shape the answer are sent to the AI provider that writes or checks it. Each service below gets only what it needs for its job and handles it under its own terms. Some of them process data outside India.
- Google (Gemini API): writes and checks answers, runs live voice sessions and Listen (read aloud), matches similar questions, and searches the web when an answer needs live sources. Google also runs Continue with Google, if you use it.
- Moonshot AI (Kimi models): writes and checks answers.
- Anthropic (Claude models): when switched on, checks answers, including answers to photo questions.
- Razorpay: takes payments for paid passes. It receives your email and name to prefill the checkout.
- Resend: delivers our service emails.
- Cloudflare (Turnstile): the security check on the signup form. It sees your IP address and browser signals.
- Render: hosts the website and the server.
- Aiven: hosts our database.
Answers can also be kept in a shared answer cache together with the question text and the board, class, language and analogy setting it was written for, so a later student with the same question gets an answer faster. The cache does not hold your name, email or account, and it is not deleted when you delete your account. Please keep personal details, such as phone numbers or addresses, out of your questions.
Students under 18
Clarify is made for students in classes 6 to 12. If you are under 18, a parent or guardian must agree to the Terms of Use and this Privacy Policy for you. The signup form asks you to confirm that before an account is created.
A parent or guardian can write to support@clarifyai.in to ask what an account holds, to correct it or to have it deleted.
How long we keep it
- Your account, chats, notebook and progress: until you delete them or delete your account.
- The detailed record of each short check (the question Clarify generated, your reply as it was graded, and how it was graded): deleted automatically after 90 days, or sooner if you delete that chat or your account.
- Your progress summary (which concepts have landed and the outcome of each check): kept until you delete your account. The chat where you answered a check stays until you delete that chat or your account.
- Verification and password reset codes: stored only as hashes, and they expire after a short time.
- Payment records after account deletion: see below.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account from inside the app, or at clarifyai.in/delete-account. Deletion is permanent. It removes your profile, chats, photos, notebook, progress, usage and cost records, and payment rows from your account.
Two things stay. First, a minimal payment record of each order you paid for or started: the email address, plan, amount, currency, Razorpay order and payment IDs, status, purchase date and deletion date. It is kept so that payment questions, refunds and tax records can still be handled after the account is gone, and Razorpay keeps its own records too. Second, the shared answer cache described above, which holds no account details.
You can also delete a single chat or a saved notebook line at any time.
Your choices
You can see and change your profile in Study Preferences at any time.
To ask for a copy of your data, to correct something, to raise a complaint or for anything else about your data, write to support@clarifyai.in. Each request is reviewed by a person.
Security
Passwords and one-time codes are stored as hashes, and the website and server talk over HTTPS. Access to the database is limited to the people who run Clarify. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a password you do not use anywhere else.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new date.
